Dan's Favorite Sausage and Peppers

I think the title says it all. My husband says this is his hands-down his favorite recipe I make. He may say that about a lot of meals in the moment, but when asked what he wants for dinner, especially if it's a special occasion like his birthday, this is what he always goes back to. My favorite part about these is how easy they are!!
Sweet, spicy and a simple seasoning give the sausage and peppers nice depth of flavor. Topped over garlic bread or toasted french rolls, they're so simple to make, filling and quick to whip together!

I like the use of the crusty bread basically as a vessel to hold the peppers, onions and sausage. Garlic bread as a food vessel? Yes please. But first things first, let's talk sausage. I use Jennie-O's hot turkey sausage links when I can find them, but lately haven't had much luck. So this time around, I used a Mild Italian Sausage and added a pinch of Red Chili Pepper flakes for a little kick.
The rest is simple. Brown up the sausage, cut into rounds, set aside.

Sautee your red onion and peppers, season, add your sausage back to the pan to finish cooking and serve over crusty garlic bread.
Nothing more to it, I swear!!

For this meal, I had Turano's Sub Rolls available, so I just sprayed lightly with some olive oil and used flakey salt and pepper and a touch of garlic powder before cooking for 5 minutes at 400°. Could you use Texas Toast? French Rolls? Ciabatta? Any of it. It's all still delicious, I promise. Let me know if you make this and how you like it.
